Chapter 36

Jimmy

“Where the fuck is he?!” Soren yelled, his face red and the veins popping out on his thick neck. He was so pissed that it looked like his entire head would pop. He was pacing furiously in the foyer of the Beta Sig house.

Finally dressed in regular clothes, I stood in the background as Soren, Wyatt, Easton, Maverick, Lachlan, and Asa Arbuckle discussed the fact that not all the pledges had made it back from the Chicken Run. It was approaching midnight, and many of the guys at the Beta Sig house were already asleep. Connor Goldstein had won the Chicken Run, having made it back to the frat house first.

“Soren, dude, calm down!” Wyatt insisted.

“How am I supposed to act, man? It’s been an hour since the last pledge made it back! My little brother and good friend is fucking missing!”

“It’s not just Matt. McCae Hillsborough and Greg Jackson haven’t come back either,” Asa added.

“So we could have three dead or hurt instead of one. Is that supposed to make it better?!” Soren snapped.

“No, you big idiot, it doesn’t mean that at all!” Lachlan blasted.

Soren shoved Lachlan, causing him to trip backward and land on his ass on the hardwood floor.

“Stop acting like fucking brutes!” Easton griped. “What the hell kind of male-testosterone shit is this?”

Wyatt and Maverick got in between Soren and Lachlan.

I hadn’t enjoyed the Chicken Run, and I was sure that none of the other pledges had either. Although I was worried, I was glad to be dressed and no longer tied up.

What was up with Beta Sig’s obsession with jockstraps and bondage?

“Don’t come for me, Soren!” Lachlan exclaimed. “I know too much shit about you!”

“Watch your mouth!” Soren growled.

“What Lachlan should’ve said,” Wyatt began, “is that since there are three of them that they could be safely together and trying to figure out a way to get back. If it were just one guy missing, I’d be a little more fearful that something bad happened.”

“Like that old hermit from eight years ago turning up again, taking advantage of the situation, and pumping a load into one of their asses?” Easton asked.

“You’re not helping matters,” Wyatt said.

“Well, we can’t sit here spinning our wheels,” cowboy-hat-clad Maverick said. “The woods are two hundred square miles with short scenic routes going in every direction. Let’s take my truck and go look for them!”

“I’m going with you,” Soren volunteered.

“I’ll grab my truck and start combing those winding roads too,” Asa said.

“I’ll go with you, Asa,” Lachlan said.

“Good,” Wyatt said. “Let’s hope y’all find them alive and well before we have to start doing damage control.”
